BAD ASS began in 2010, when five friends living in and around the Inland Empire of Southern California came together to begin a style of punk rock based on good times and the lost sounds of a street punk generation. Lead singers Mikie on the mic and Yellin’ Helen took the stage along with Bad Ass Becca on the bass, Joe the Cub on guitar and Cesar the Mosquito on drums. The first year took off with a few demo recordings and energetic shows alongside bands such as Battalion of Saints, The Murder Junkies and Decry. In 2012 a second guitarist, Brad-ass was added to the band to give the Bad Ass sound a much fuller and heavier sound both on recording and on stage. As Bad Ass became more solid with songs and reputation, the year brought more headliners to their gigs; Naked Aggression, Narcoleptic Youth, and The Blood. Conflicting schedules brought the loss of Brad, though the sound of two guitars blaring on stage was too good to ever go back. Tennessee joined for a short period of time before Tony (of Kalifornia Taliban) was added to the Bad Ass family. Recording continued with friend and recorder Vic ‘d’ Prick of Assault and Battery productions, a 12 song cd in the works. “Cougars and Cubs” was the first music video made in 2013, and the year brought in epic line ups including One Way System, The Business, Funeral Dress, Atomic Bombs, Mass Terror, and Poison Idea. Sadly in the summer months the band lost both Cesar and Becca when both moved far enough away to be unable continue with Bad Ass, Cesar in July and Becca in October. They will always be missed, but forever Bad Asses. Jeremy King (of For Rebellion) stepped in, or rather sat down -to take over as Bad Ass’s ‘master beater’ and Liz (of BDSM) picked up the bass to belt out old jams and add her own voice and talent to work on new ones. Bad Ass cd’s, shirts and patches hit the shows and hit Dr. Strange, badasspunkrock.com was formed for web browsers, and in June, 5 new songs were recorded at Trench Studios in Corona. “Kitty Better Run” is added onto one Punk Aid compilation. Joe stepped down from the band as Tony took over lead guitar, and Brian (of The Infected) joins the band and is an instant Bad Ass. Joe continues to make guest appearances as once a Bad Ass, always a Bad Ass…. To date the band has played with The Voids, Reagan Youth, Litmus Green, Slaughter and the Dogs, English Dogs, Lower Class Brats and Final Conflict. A new split 7” featuring Bad Ass and The Knuckas is on the way and will be released early 2015. Another 7” with the newest songs recorded should be in the works soon!
